Industry City Wayfinding Map

A Seamless Wayfinding Experience
With six million square feet spanning 16 buildings across five blocks and three avenues, navigating Industry City presented a significant challenge. Â Effective wayfinding was vital to the project's success. The solution involved a comprehensive system comprised of informational anchors on ground floor lobby columns, courtyard signage, street-side branding, and a user-friendly campus map. The map needed to be minimal, easy to read, accurately depict the buildings' architecture, and enable users to quickly orient themselves, identify their destination, and determine the best route.
‍
Working in conjunction with the Industry City design team and co-designing with Airspace, I developed the second iteration of this wayfinding map. Â
‍
The first iteration was even featured in a Cardi B photoshoot with I-D magazine, showcasing its cultural relevance.

Wayfinding Effectiveness & User Experience
The wayfinding map significantly improved navigation within Industry City, creating a more seamless and positive experience for tenants and visitors. While specific usage data is difficult to quantify, several key indicators suggest the map's success:
Anecdotal evidence and user feedback suggest a significant improvement in wayfinding within Industry City following the implementation of the new map. Visitors and tenants reported feeling more confident and less disoriented when navigating the complex.
The map seamlessly integrates with other wayfinding elements, such as lobby signage and street-side branding, creating a cohesive and user-friendly navigation system throughout the Industry City campus. The map's minimal design and clear visual hierarchy contribute to its accessibility and user-friendliness, making it easy for people of all ages and backgrounds to understand and use.
